Download the zip file and upload the html and css files in a new Workspace on Treehouse.
You may want to begin by opening the files in a text editor of your choice.
Then have your students edit the form to organize the data for their inquiry question.

Graphing Linear Equations with Scratch

CCSS: Grade 5 » Geometry » Graph points on the coordinate plane to solve real-world and mathematical problems. » 1

Use a pair of perpendicular number lines, called axes, to define a coordinate system, with the intersection of the lines (the origin) arranged to coincide with the 0 on each line and a given point in the plane located by using an ordered pair of numbers, called its coordinates. Understand that the first number indicates how far to travel from the origin in the direction of one axis, and the second number indicates how far to travel in the direction of the second axis, with the convention that the names of the two axes and the coordinates correspond (e.g., x-axis and x-coordinate, y-axis and y- coordinate).

Given a linear function, have students create a scratch animation to complete the function. Below is an example of how your student could complete the task:  The x and y answers display in the top left hand corner.

You can also encourage them to do their homework here instead of using a calculator.

Note: Axis are NOT drawn to scale

Design a school app

Design Challenge

The Problem:  Your school has a terrible time with communication. They send out emails but parents never read them.  20 students showed up last Monday for the teacher work day and the staff had to scramble to figure out what to do. The school needs your help!

Directions:  Working with one or two other students, design an app to help parents and teachers communicate better! You can use multiple pages, icons, messaging, gamification, and more.  For your first iteration, you have 25 minutes before you will present your ideas to the group. Good luck!

Materials and More:  Pencil, paper, and ruler for a low tech option.  Search for the latest dimensions on the internet or download this template.  Notability for the iPad. Photoshop on the computer or iPad (cost varies).  Sketch (cost ~$80) on the computer.  Sarah Parmenter's Mobile App Design for iOS course on Treehouse ($9/student/month; first 2 weeks free).

Click here to get to the instructions page. You don't need a computer or any technical skills. All you need to know is that programming is just a huge set of very specific instructions for a computer to follow.  Make your kids into software and computers by playing this game.  Make sure their instructions are very very very very specific and follow them exactly how they are written.
